Back up and restore your data

Save your folders, tags, and notes to a snapshot file, and restore them later on this or another account.

Take a snapshot

  1. Open Settings and tap Snapshots under Tools. In older app versions, expand the section with your name and email, then tap Snapshots.
  2. Tap Take a Snapshot.
  3. Choose where to save the .casnap file, such as your phone's storage or a cloud drive, and save it.

A snapshot contains your folders, cases, tags, notes, and tracked searches. Uploaded case files are not included. Snapshots are saved only where you choose and are never uploaded automatically.

Restore from a snapshot

  1. Open Settings → Snapshots.
  2. Tap Choose Snapshot File and select the .casnap file.
  3. Check the details under Review before restoring: when the snapshot was created and what it contains.
  4. Tap Confirm Restore. A summary shows how many folders, notes, tags, and tracked searches were restored. If everything in the file is already in your account, each count is 0.
Safe to repeat: restoring only adds items you don't already have. Existing folders, tags, and notes are never changed or removed.

Good to know

  • A folder with the same name as one you already have is skipped, not merged.
  • A note is skipped if the case already has a note in your account.
  • Restored folders are personal to you. Folder sharing is not restored; link the folder again if needed.
  • If you don't see Snapshots under Tools in Settings (or, in older app versions, in the section with your name and email), it is not available on your account yet.
